SEX
APPEAL: 12th House Records releases a dark and ambient album of
erotica.
Folio Weekly
Erotic
House Music? Let's talk about SEX, baby. Ambient, electronic erotica,
moaning and bondage all appear on SEX.
This
CD, comprised of 12 vignettes featuring Craig Spirko's music coupled
with the poetry / monologues / moaning of several female artists,
has an ethereal quality with layered sounds and allows for a smooth
flow. The spoken-word element brings a strength to the tracks, and
the more poetic tracks, such as "Heaven" adds a seriousness to the
compilation that is both compelling and profoundly intimate.
In
addition to their poetic properties, the vocals can also be disturbing.
When "Bad" was being recorded, I just about had to leave the room,"
says
Spirko. But I had no intentions whatsoever. I gave [the vocalists]
little direction. The most important input I had in it, was that if
she wasn't sure what to do, I'd say "Have a fantasy. Turn off the
lights in the studio and do whatever you want, whatever at this moment
is a turn-on to you."

Spirko's
"SEX: 12 Music Vignettes" takes the listener on an erotic journey
that hints at roiling fantasy and perfect, forbidden sex. Sexy, well-placed
sounds bytes paint scenes of sensuous and capricious trysts,
while
the background beats entrance. The artists' spontaneous lyrics evoke
the desperation of desire and the flush of satisfaction, leaving the
listener hungry for more SEX... real and recorded!
